Srinagar: After fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of the valley and rain in Srinagar city on Wednesday, the weather is expected to be dry from Thursday morning till November 21.
Director of Meteorological (MeT) Department, J&K, Sonum Lotus told Kashmir Reader, “We are expecting light rain and snowfall in higher reaches till tomorrow morning in Jammu and Kashmir. After that, weather will remain dry till 21st of November.”
He added that occasionally there can be light rain and snowfall in isolated places.
Five inches of snowfall was recorded in both Gulmarg and Tangmarg on Wednesday, while in Pahalgam four inches of snow was recorded.
The person in charge of the Snow and Clearance Control Room said that two machines have been deployed on the Gulmarg-Tangmarg road for clearance of snow, while one snow clearance machine has been deployed in Aru Pahalgam.
Officials of the traffic department said that the Jammu-Srinagar highway was open for traffic on Wednesday from Srinagar to Jammu.
“The road was clear, no landslide was reported, and the highway today was open for traffic from Srinagar to Jammu. We are monitoring the situation and will close the road if landslide happens,” an official said.
The official added that on Thursday, if weather remains normal, traffic will be allowed from Jammu to Srinagar.
As per the Met Department, Srinagar recorded 5.2.mm rainfall on Wednesday, Qazigund received 14.2mm, Banihal 11.9mm, Pahalgam 9.0mm, Kokernag 8.4mm, Kupwara 23.8mm, and Jammu 0.2mm.
An official at Srinagar airport said that all flights took off at scheduled times and there were no cancellations from Srinagar airport due to bad weather on Wednesday. KR WEB DESK
